A water wheel is a large wheel driven by flowing water. It was once utilized to work machinery or to raise water to higher levels. At Concordia Estate, we offer a historic tour to Tobago’s most famous and historic water wheel: the Concordia Waterwheel.
Built in the 1850’s, the Concordia Waterwheel was built to power the rollers to crush the sugar cane from the River Estate Lands. The power used to turn the wheel came directly from the nearby Providence River. It is one of the biggest water wheels of Tobago which powered a sugar factory mill.
